Club Update 27th Oct

Posted by PB Admin on 29 October 2020

Court bookings:

  • Courts must always be booked before you play
  • All bookings (coaching and courts) continue to be made via ClubSpark – links to the correct website can be found on www.pottersbartennis.net
  • The LTA no longer suggest a buffer is required between bookings so your booking goes up to the hour. However, please be sure to leave the court promptly so the next players can start on time.
  • All match courts are booked in advance by admin. For autumn matches we are booking out extra time to allow for leaf-clearing.

Court rejuvenation: courts 4, 5 and 6 will be undergoing work in the week beginning Monday 16th November and will take four or five days to complete. This work will give the courts a new lease of life and should extend their usage for a number of years. During this week these courts will be out of action and part of the car park will be needed by the contractors.

Autumn leaves: the courts are cleared on a weekly basis by our contractors but through the autumn members often find that they need clearing in between. We have in the clubhouse two large green sweeper mats that can be used by any member to clear a court quickly and easily. These mats are to be found hanging on the wall under the floodlight boxes. Please do clear your court for your own safety and enjoyment and be sure to put the mats back when you have finished – they are surprisingly expensive!

For those that use the Booker app on Android phones, the error that arose last week seems to have been sorted out. However, if you do have issues using the app on any device, you can book via the website in your browser.

Tennis balls and floodlight tokens can be purchased by emailing [email protected] to arrange payment and collection.

Floodlights:

  • Each £1 token gives 20 minutes of lights
  • Your court time ends when your booked slot ends, not when your floodlights run out.
  • Please remember that we are not allowed to use the lights after 10pm. There is a cut out that will turn the lights off automatically so do not feed tokens in to expire after 10pm as you may lose the time.

Please note, if the lights are allowed to go off (i.e. the token runs out) they are designed not to re-start for 20 minutes (it protects the very expensive bulbs).

For example, if you have a court booked from 9pm to 10pm, the tokens of the people on the court before you may be due to expire pre 9pm e.g. 8.58pm, The lights would then not come on until 20 minutes after they went out (which would be very frustrating).

Therefore you may wish to turn up 10 minutes or so early to check the meter and put your tokens in in advance to ensure that the lights do not go out.

Coaching: Group and individual coaching continues for adults and juniors, members and non-members. Winter junior Friday evenings for 9 to 18 year olds will start on 13th November - £4.50 for members, £5.50 for non-members per session. All group coaching is bookable via ClubSpark – please find the link on www.pottersbartennis.net.

Rota sessions: these continue to take place Wednesday evenings from 6pm and Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm for all full-time adult members and juniors with senior status, and Wednesday mornings from 9am to 11am for all adult members. Please note, your contact details will be required by the organiser on the day, for track and trace purposes.

Covid-19: while Potters Bar is currently in tier 1, some of our members live in tier 2 areas. The LTA has clarified that people living in tier 2 areas are permitted to play outdoor tennis with no further restrictions over tier 1.

Reminders:

  • The club-house is only open for the use of the toilet, to access the floodlight boxes, and to pick up balls for matches and club sessions. Access by one person at a time only, and please use the hand-sanitiser on your way in and way out.
  • Spectators are not allowed for any play, be it social tennis or matches. Where attendance of a parent/guardian (non-participant) is required, or a carer for a disabled player, it is permitted.
  • Please maintain social distancing and leave the club area promptly when you have finished playing.

Enjoy your tennis! Any questions, please email [email protected]
